2 Days in Broome? Deadset's Must-Sees You Can’t Miss!

Updated: Jun 19, 2025

So, you’ve only got two days in Broome and a budget? Don’t stress, I’ve done the hard yards to figure out what’s worth your time. Whether you’re here on a cheeky long weekend or squeezing it in between other outback adventures, here’s the Deadset guide to Broome’s best bits; no fluff, just fun.

On the Coast in Broome

1. Chase Dinos at Gantheaume Point

Yes, we’re starting with actual dinosaur footprints. The real deal 130 million years old and stamped into the reef at Gantheaume Point. I’ve included some guidelines to help you spot them, the first time we tried we couldn’t find them and ended up making them up and wowing the kids anyway!!

🦖 How to Actually Find the Dinosaur Footprints

  • Go at LOW tide. This is non-negotiable. The prints are only visible when the tide is out – ideally under 2 metres. Check the Broome tide chart before you go.

  • Head to Gantheaume Point (near the lighthouse) and follow the rocky path down toward the reef flats.

  • You’ll need good grip shoes – thongs are a recipe for a rolled ankle and a bad mood.

  • Look for the little plaques near the edge – they mark where to look.

  • If you're feeling iffy, join a guided tour – they’ll not only show you where the prints are, but tell you what type of dino made them (spoiler: some are the size of your car).

You’ll feel like a total legend when you spot them. Just don't forget to look up every now and then, that view over the turquoise ocean and the red rock formations are incredible.

2. Let the Dog Off-Leash at Cable Beach’s Secret Stretch

Cable Beach gets all the hype, but if you're after the locals’ favourite, head to the Gantheaume Point end where dogs run free. You can drive straight onto the beach and you’ll see a lot of cars do and most are reversed so they can enjoy a drink out of the back while the sun sets!

3. Witness the Staircase to the Moon

If you’re in town during a full moon (March–October), this is a must. Head to Town Beach, grab some food from the markets and settle in for nature’s light show, the moon reflecting off the mudflats creates the illusion of a glowing staircase to the sky. You can get some pretty good pictures with your iPhone but I recommend purchasing a postcode of this particular marvel.

4. Brave the Croc Park

Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park, it’s part terrifying, part fascinating, and all very Broome. There are crocs bigger than your Ute and feeding times that’ll get the heart racing. Great for the kids, they could get to hold a baby croc and there are lots of other animals to see. Remember sunscreen and mozzie spray.

5. Chill Out at Simpson’s Beach (AKA Red Sand Heaven)

This spot doesn’t get the same attention as Cable Beach, but it’s got that deep, rich pindan sand that screams Kimberley. Great for a quick swim, a sandy picnic, or snapping photos that’ll make your Instagram look all earthy and exotic.

6. Get Fancy at Willie Creek Pearl Farm

Willie Creek Pearl Farm is your stop if you like to learn history and how things are made. Take a tour, learn how they grow the fancy pearls and perhaps take some extra mulla for the bigger discounts you score at the end! The boat cruise is very cool. Great for all ages – even the kids will be into the boat bits and seeing all the pearls.

7. Browse Broome’s Chinatown + Courthouse Markets

If you’ve got time, wander through Chinatown for a bit of shopping, a cheeky ice cream, or some local art. On weekends, the Courthouse Markets are full of hidden gems, from handmade jewellery to fresh juices and bush soaps. Go early before it’s sweat-central.

Bonus Tip: Book a Camel Ride... or Don’t

Look, the camel rides on Cable Beach are iconic – and your kids will beg you. It’s fun, it’s touristy, but also pricey from $125 per adult for 1hr. But it’s one of those “do it once and tick it off” kind of things. Bonus points for wearing something flowy for the photo.

🧳 Final Tips:

  • Broome’s heat is no joke, drink water, wear a hat, and take shade where you can.

  • The red dust will get in your socks, shoes and soul; embrace it.

  • If you didn’t drive to Broome, renting a car is a great way to ensure you see everything!

  • The are about three main tours from Broome, Horizontal Falls Half Day Adventure ($1270), 3.5hr Sunset Cruise ($155) and 2-3hr Sightseeing Bus Tour ($120)
